On the merits and deficiencies of the old ways of Tremulous

Continuing the discussion from Predefined valid reasons required for kick and mute votes:

Just because something has been done a certain way for a “long time” doesn’t mean it is the best possible option now. The amount of active Tremulous players now is a tiny fraction of what it was years ago (Quake 3 also experienced a devastating decline in popularity) . This is a clear indication that there were aspects of Tremulous that lead to that drastic decline. Of course there were/are aspects of Tremulous that make Tremulous a uniquely awesome game that shouldn’t be abandoned but rather embraced.

I’m asking members of the Tremulous community to consider and answer these following questions in their dedicated linked topics:

  1. What did Tremulous do right, and should continue to do?

  2. What did/does Tremulous do wrong?

  3. If anything you wanted could be changed in Tremulous, what can be done better today?

If your only arguments for or against aspects of Tremulous or Tremulous as a whole is its age, then that goes back to the logical fallacy of Argumant from age and those kinds of arguments are invalid. What would be of interest are sound arguments supporting answers to the above 3 questions.
