Cheese's Disorganized Brainstorming Notebook

Welcome to my notebook! In this page, I’ll list ideas for tremulous that I’ve shown interest towards , such as new classes, gameplay, mods and map concepts. If I have time to waste, I’ll elaborate a bit more on each.

Please note: This thread is disordered and will BUMP consistently… be warned.

Classes:

Alien Concepts
-Basibomb: A grenade-like weapon that can be deployed by the basilisk (maybe the spitfire?). Can be defused by “reparing” it using a ckit. Should be about as large as a dretch.

-Boomer: An alien, that can self-kill to deal damage. Still under debate as how it should act. Here are some concepts;

Cheese’s Proposal: A frail little alien like a dretch, but with grangerslash. Alt selfkills and deals damage. Dying otherwise does nothing.

Cron’s Proposal (@romdos): A durable, immobile alien that is either set on a timer or explodes on command. When hit, it “bounces” like a ball, being knocked away by attacks. Proposed using goons to hurl the alien-bomb into, say, the H base.

-Corruptor: Support unit that marks units, increasing their damage takenfor a few seconds.

-[Placeholder Name]: A weak, flying ranged harassment unit.

Human Concepts

-Make flamer great again!

-Some kind of artillery?

Map concepts

-Newbie tutorial map (Maybe even add bots to it?)

-Training map (Used to practice tough techniques such as basilisk, mdriver, dretching…)

-Scenario maps/Campaign maps (For example, maybe we need to survive for 20mins against the alien onslaught, or we’re breaking into the alien hivemind)

Software ports

-ARM Never mind, already ported
-Android OS

Continuing on from alien concepts…

Predator: An “apex” (final tier) class for s3 on the same power level of the tyrant and advanced dragoon. While the tyrant is a front line bruiser and the dragoon a versatile ranged sniper, the predator is a specialist attacker, utilising its enemies’ weaknesses and adapting its kit to hunt down hapless “prey” with relative ease. However, the disadvantage to having a fully specialist “toolkit” is that using one “subclass” causes unrelated stats to harshly fall (i.e changing to ranged form will increase your damage, accuracy and speed, as well as giving you several ranged attacks, but it will also strip you of all close-combat abilities and lower your health.) Please note that the predator’s base form has significantly less total stats than its other forms (as the predator is a specialist and should not be an “all around” unit [If you want that, go away and play as an advanced dragoon.],) and that it will probably be completely useless without a skilled player and an adequate team. (You should have a 5+ goons and tyrants squad before someone invests into a predator, and the predator player needs to exploit the weaknesses of humans in order to have any chance of winning.)

How this fits into the game:
The predator is a specialist hunter dispatched by the hivemind to deal with especially difficult/hardy human establishments.

Here’s an outline:

[WIP]
Predator
Stage: 3
Price: 6
HP: 250
Attack: 65 (Basic Claw)
Base “Armour Value”: 1x
Movement Speed: (Equal to a dragoon)
Attack Delay: 0.7 seconds (Requires testing)

Ability: With a new bind (or something similar to the human’s weapon-changing ability with the mouse-wheel + [M3],) players can transform between forms. (In order to create game balance, you need to wait 30 seconds before changing again.)

List of forms:
Important symbols: +(Increased), =(Normal), -(Decreased) [Note that the number of symbols also adds meaning as well (++ would be greatly increased)]

Base Form: =Defense/Armour, =Attack, =Attack Speed, =Mobility/Speed
Special: Nothing special
Notes: Probably not a good form to stick with since it has sub-par stats for its cost.

General Points of interest:
-Switching forms will NOT change your max health or your remaining health. In order to calculate “defense,” I’m considering of a hidden “armour” variable. “1” is the default value, meaning that you take 1x damage, “2” means 2x, “0.5” means halved damage…
-There’s a delay after switching, in which you cannot switch forms again.
-Just thinking things and interesting concepts, most of these classes I probably couldn’t utilize well.

Assault form: ++Defense/Armour levels, +Attack, =Attack Speed, - -Mobility/Speed
Special: Can charge and bash (explained more in the notes section), and also takes less damage from the front. Takes increased damage from behind.
Notes: Is similar to a tyrant, but specializes in building up momentum and bashing enemies with said momentum (impact damage.)
Key points:
Pressing (M2) [Alt-Attack] will cause you to gradually build up a “Boost” meter like the tyrant as long as you continue moving (not moving will slowly drain this bar.) Right clicking again will cause you to charge forward at high speed until the bar is drained (which should be ~2.5 seconds) or you hit a wall, dealing damage to enemies and allies alike. While this may seem too strong, remember that this class has even poorer mobility than the tyrant, making the charge its only means of propulsion. Using this charge correctly can even lead to swift escape from a troubled situation.

Hunter Form: -Defense/Armour, ++++Attack, - -Attack Speed, =Mobility
Special: Does not regenerate projectiles but must instead visit a special alien station to return them. Like humans, it has a fixed but high ammo capacity (around 20 shots.) Also cannot move while priming and firing but has INSANE danage to compensate. Not only that, the bullet will also pass through any players, dealing damage until it hits a wall, a buildable or solid ground.
Note: Do not TK. Just DON’T. An accidental teamkill can easily turn into several teamkills to deal with, especially when your projectile deals more damage than the tyrant and also happens to puncture through players until it hits a non-player entity or a wall.

Main points to take note of for the “Hunter” form:
-In order to prepare a shot, you must first right click (M2.) This will fix your movement in place, allowing you to only turn using the mouse (This should be reminiscent of other games, where you must “scope” in order to attack.) THEN, you can press (M3) to fire a projectile. Doing this will “unlock” your position and force a brief delay before you can “arm” yourself again.
-May not be mentioned above, but this class also has a weak, unreliable melee attack.

Mobility Form: - -Defense, -Attack, ++Attack Speed, ++Mobility
Special: Can double-jump and hover as well as glide. Has a ranged, high-speed projectile attack and a close-ranged bite and can “blink” a short distance through walls, players but not the world border (this ability has a long cooldown). Play like a marauder with ranged harassment.
Notes: Also known as the fragile speedster.

Alright, the predator outline should be finished now… What next?
I’d also like some advice on concept refinement and possible new forms if needed.

If you are calling it corrupter its got to be flying! I think a little fast flying support thing with 25 health could be perfect. Maybe give teammates wall hacks on whatever it tags for the duration of the buff?
