So basically make hive damage stronger, but allow the bees or whatever is inside to be shot while they are outside so they wont keep chasing you.

What if only the flamer could be used to kill swarms?

It would be almost useless because flamer isn’t really used by people, if we can increase flamer’s effectivity then we can, such as no self friendly fire for flamer or allow mouse 2 button to pounce as flamer, with cooldown of course

Flamer killing swarms is a neat idea, it gives it a niche use.

Hives do not need more damage, they hurt like a bitch. The main problem with the hive is it’s structure cost, lack of HP, it’s bulky size (blocks aliens, easy to be shot), slow swarm speed (they can be kited if you run in circles) and somewhat lack of range. Improving on one of those would probably be better.

Hives are pretty effective on gpp actually. You should see them in action on test7341 during the dev games today. Here is a list of the differences from 1.1 of hives & swarms:

Hive

  • bounding box reduced 70x70x50 -> 40x40x40
  • sense range increased 400 -> 500
  • fires at attackers regardless of range
  • repeat reduced 5000 -> 3000
  • no longer fires if the swarm won't be able to hit
  • fires from the top of its bounding box
  • can have more than one swarm active at a timeswarm changes
  • **Swarms:**
    • damage increased 50 -> 80
    • no longer do locational damage
    • movement speed increased 240 -> 320
    • lifetime reduced 15000 -> 3000
    • no longer die from hitting a wall or being more than 6000 units from their hive
    • target the nearest human instead of chasing the same one until death

Hmm. While I was playing a few games ago, the bees kept chasing me, so I thought that maybe you can shoot the bees making it more realistic in a way and also imbude the bees with poison but allow them to be shot by humans.

It is just called a swarm on Tremulous, it isn’t clarified what the swarm consist of. However, since the aliens are suppose to be extraterrestrials, it wouldn’t make much sense for the aliens to be creating and using earth based lifeforms like bees.

Untrue unless you are buttnaked. The hives need collectable honey too.

It still hurts like a bitch with or without armor, although it costs alot as far as bp is concerned

Have you tried the hives on test7341? There you will know what real swarm pain is.
