I think GrangerHub deserves them more. Unvanquished developers have blinded themselves.
I am not sure any problems between Unvanquished and GrangerHub that I am aware of, however I don’t think we should do this. Just stealing assets without reason or for malicious intent is bad on us which we want to try to prevent, also we do have some pretty good molders so if anything we can get some things done.
For the record - It’s impossible to consider using free culture assets as “stealing” (in any sense of the word) unless you violate the terms of their license. The license ensures that anyone and everyone can use them. For assets that are licensed CC-BY-SA-NC, only a commercial entity that uses them primarily to make a profit would be in violation.
What would be involved in converting Unv assets into assets that can be used on Trem’s current engine? I know that there would have to be conversion between Unv’s shaders and trem’s .mtr files used in the new renderer. Does the current engine support the model format used in Unv? What other techincal considerations would there be?
This could be done as an optional add-on pk3 (add the “semi-pure” code please!). Any .crn and any .webp textures would need to be converted. Any .shader would need to be copied and converted to .mtr, and then scrub the .shader of any keywords the old renderer doesn’t use. Attribution would need to be given to each author of assets (if this info is even available), placing it into COPYING.
