Specific Suspension Instance #15-a3

For purposes of transparency, I’m making the following public statements:

It wasn’t a threat, I gave @enneract an official warning about spamming personal attacks, griefing, making libelous claims, and spamming misinformation. This was not a one time occurrence, but has been on going for awhile (since GrangerPub became multiprotocol and popular even among the remaining gpp players). He has been given warnings about such behavior previously and given opportunities to improve. But since he insists to continue to disregard our community guidelines, his account has been temporarily suspended at this time.

Constructive criticism, voicing concerns, disagreeing, and debating are all healthy and essential things for the project and for the community and are encouraged. But there are right ways and wrong ways to go about it. If discussions become uncivil and hostile, they become destructive, counter-productive, and major distractions from getting awesome stuff done. This is why we have community guidelines, and the forum tools (such as flagging) for moderators and community to help maintain a healthy and non-hostile environment.

The community guidelines and ToS apply to everyone here on GrangerHub’s website, whether you are a basic member, a seasoned veteran of the game, a new player, a developer, a mapper, a game server admin, a server owner, a modder, forum moderator/admin, and/or even a founder of GrangerHub.

Remember that whether we play the game, participate in the community, and/or contribute towards the game and/or community, we are taking our spare time for enjoying the experience and the results (time that we could have decided to use on something else), because we certainly aren’t making any money off of it. So lets make sure that the environment here is conducive to achieving that for ourselves, our friends, and any prospective potential new players.

With that said, GrangerHub’s development is continuing to move forward on getting Tremulous 1.3 to its initial public release, and we will keep the community notified of significant developments (expect some important announcements in the extremely near future).

which is a threat.

there were none of such in recent times. just a few posts before, @enneract raised a true and valid point.

bullshit. @enneract, although in severe disagreement with us, has always acted more professionally than almost everyone else on this forum, even more than me. use the reports section to post a list of forum misconducts done by @enneract, with proper links; i will tell u where u’re WRONG — because, as i recall, there’s almost none, at least compared to other ill conduct that is administratively unpunished.

at most, the only thing u can reasonably — though, due to no support from the ToS or guidelines, formally invalidly — accuse @enneract with, is ignoring some arguments from time to time. however, by a superhuge-cardinally_infinitely more significant proportion, @Hendrich and DICKBUTTs have been ignoring almost all1 arguments since ever, and this is coupled with the fact that they r in unaccountable fagmin positions, where they act first — typically without consultancy with other fagmins —, and force the burden of proof on the targets, requiring arguing to not an arbitrator, but to the biased fagmins themselves.

1 measured by the total significance, not the count, of ignored arguments.

neither of these words should be usable in disciplined conversations in general, because ppl have diverse — ie., from the viewpoint of most others, WRONG — idea of what these words means, and what is good for the ppl: most ppl associate „constructive criticism” with „something they like to hear”. (thought continues.)

WRONG. REAL_MEN™ derive useful things out of any explained criticism in general. to illustrate the differences between and misconceptions about „constructive” and „explained”, the following presentation may undeceive those that have the WRONG idea of what is good for them:

  • „nice, how about +5 maximum hitpoints ?” — this is fucking useless. really, for other than raising the generally obvious proposition that the developers can actually change the maximum hitpoints of anything, this is just a waste of time to read (or skip), even a waste of computer resources to store and transmit.
  • „u’re a big fucking piece of shit, because [explanations2]” — score ! useful knowledge has been gained on what not to try, preventing the waste of effort that could have happened by entering into a project, or effectivizing a decision, that is doomed to fail.

2 explanations that get to the bottom of the conclusion, or at least get beyond tautology, and do not appeal to authority. for example:

  • „because it won’t work in practice.” is not such an explanation, because it is general blabbering.
  • „i am (more of) an expert in the field (than u), and i’ll tell u: u’re WRONG.” is not such an explanation, because it appeals to (one’s own) authority, and there is no feedback to see if .

distractions ? u’ve gotta be fucking kidding me.

it’s all fucked up. from the guidelines and the system, to the „leaders” and the moderators, and thus the „health”.

what the shitfuck does that mean ? that u want to enjoy a deluded, false fantasy of: the system and its tyrannic individuals not being a big fucking piece of shit ?

It is a waste of time and energy playing/participating and contributing towards the game and community if one doesn’t enjoy those experiences and results there of, and instead allows themselves to be consumed by negative drama. I’m not saying that everything has to be perfect and go the way one wants at all times, nor that there would be no drama, this is a community of people after all, but excessive drama that takes the enjoyment out just isn’t worth it, and that drives away more people than it keeps.

First of all, sexism much? Secondly, hostility and personal attacks embedded with even useful criticism has the tendency to distract from the useful aspect of the criticism for most people, and can result in unproductive negative responses, shouting matches, and people being turned off from participating in the conversations or even in the community. Then there is hostility with no useful criticism which is bleh.

Sure some people find such interchanges entertaining, but on forums for most people it is lame, and has detrimental results for communities. I’m not saying that there shouldn’t be any “colorfulness”/emotional expression in interactions on forums, but that there is a line between that and actual hostility.

It is GrangerHub’s position that its members should behave civilly between one another especially when in disagreement. The execution of that position may not have been 100% perfect so far, but we are doing our best to get better at it. I know that there may be some who don’t want civility in forums, or even enjoy hostility in forums, they can choose to experience hostility on some other forums, or start their own forums for such, but that is not acceptable for GrangerHub’s forums.

That report section you are referring to is for game server reports (in particular for the GrangerPub server) to bring issues to the attention of the game server administration, it is not for reviewing forum moderator actions. Forum suspensions are not up for public community review, they are reviewed by the forum staff. I will say that the forum staff will be reviewing this suspension in a timely fashion, but for now enneract is going to have some time off from the forums.

If you would like to start a discussion about how in general suspensions and other forum moderator actions should be addressed, feel free to start a new topic in the Meta Category.

I’ll follow suit: this issue is going to be DELIBERATED™ among the forum administration and the results will be summarized next week (26th).

I’ll reserve my opinion(s) until then and I highly suggest everyone else follow suit.

I love you too, bae. See you on the other side.

UPDATE: I should have paid more attention to a very key part of Sparky’s response:

Therefore, this thread (and all other specific discussion about this issue) is going to be closed accordingly.
