Whenever I play on Humans I feel like I’m the only teammate who actually LEAVES the base. The rest just sit in the base like fags. On some matches the Human team just camp inside their base for THE ENTIRE MATCH and as a result, it’s incredibly difficult for aliens to get evos.
And guess what, the camp today was so bad that it made poor ssingh leave the game after just 20 minutes of the match starting.
I knew someone would post that lol
I can think of several general ways to reduce camping in Tremulous game play:
-
Minimize the benefits from camping.
-
Reward attacking and expansion more.
-
Make it easier to get out of the main base and build forwards, even when low on credits/evos.
-
Make it so that bases and forwards are not completely impenatrable when occupied by campers.
if you have a game where you can keep building shit over and over to defend yourself, then camping is inevitable
welcome to tremulous
I see nothing wrong with a builder camping.
imo, “ckits” and “rifles” are one and the same. their role is to defend the base and kill the OM. its up to them to decide when to change their loadout appropriately
Truck this is an age old problem in trem (decade actually but #memes i guess)
It’s true that humans sometimes camp regardless of the situation they’re in, but those people are pretty rare imo. Usually however (and i’m talking 95% of cases where humans are camping) the people complaining about humans camping are sitting with rants right around the corner of h base. People have a tendency to blame everything on something other than themselves, trem players are no exception. Aliens use tyrants vs s2 or even s1 humans and then complain when humans no longer leave the base, big fucking surprise huh. Humans are all naked waiting for time credits hs1 vs as2 where all aliens are goons sitting around the corners. “Fucking humans camping all the time”
Sure it’s camp camp camp all the time but what do you expect in pub games. There’s 3 different categories of players (roughly) with like 20% pure noobs not capable of doing anything, 70% capable players that will get absolutely fucking destroyed by good players (the remaining 10%) but be able to handle themselves vs other mediocre players. It becomes a problem when (and this happens literally. every. single. fucking. map) the good players either stack the fuck out of one side: there’s usually like 6 players which i consider good / clearly better than the rest in the player pool of 20ish people. now obviously the game will end in 5 minutes if all these 6 players are on one team, but usually it’s divided 4/2 (never 3/3 though for some fucking reason, maybe because the games would last 45 mins on average if that was the case) and ALL the half decent mediocre players join the side with 4 good players, leaving the trash noobs no other choice than the team with 2 good players. Usually one of those 2 good players leaves after 15 minutes because of the noobs feeding the other team, completely fucking over the balance. If the team with the 2 good players is the human team, there will be “we want tl” camp. If it’s aliens the game ends right then and there. Then the game ends and we all spam gg even though we all know it wasn’t one.
TL;DR 1) Stop instantly blaming others and try to understand that maybe you’re the one creating the problem. 2) Stop stacking teams if you want fun gameplay. 3) Last but not least: git gud.
EDIT: forgot to point out that this problem exists for both sides: aliens and humans, but as aliens aren’t capable of camping IN THEIR OWN BASE (they get luci’d into oblivion) you feel like it’s always the humans fault because they have an alternative to attacking (even though camping is just delaying the inevitable) You don’t notice the problem whenever it occurs against the aliens team, because the game ends really quickly afterwards, but it’s there.
Test7341 is a whole different story though
I agree with Dark. There hasn’t been an easy solution to camping in Tremulous for years (except one mod that did it really well imo) and theres been all sorts of QVMs and forks that tried to do something about it. Unvanquished tried the “momentum” system where players were (more or less) forced to play proactively by rushing/building/killing aggressively to fill up the bar to gain access to more weapons/buildings/aliens or risk having it drop and lose the game through attrition.
Personally I thought it was a really cool idea in theory and I was happy to see people actually take the time to code it, but from what I personally played it basically turned every into “which team can snowball out of control first”. I’m not bringing this up to shit on Unvanquished, but to point out that this isn’t something can be easily solved even if you had the time, talent and skill to implement a solution.
As far as I’m concerned, we’re going to have threads like these forever. Nothing new will be revealed in this thread other than indulging in whats basically bitching about a 10-year old game.
This feels so familiar.
As humans you need to just suck it up and accept the fact you will never receive help from your team and that you will be leaving base with approximately 80hp (60 if azarothe is on your team) every godamn time. You should attempt to formulate coordinated rushes with top players on your team and rely on the campers as defence. Jetpacks can also help you a lot in solo play, use the shitters on your team below you as fodder whilst you rake in some free damage.
As aliens you need to accept the fact this game is unbalanced on the map ATCS (where most matches and camp occurs) forcing humans to rely on their base, leading to a campy and drawn out game.
The best thing to do as aliens when humans camp is build them in with a double forward booster, wait for evos or attempt to pick off those who attack. Once all your team has full evo banks you rush in unison for the win. The forward eggs and booster allow you to instantly rush in for a second wave if needed.
A camping alien team can often be shut down with a mass luci rush.
The goal of tremulous is to camp , make other team RQ and then rush . What’s ur problem bro?
I disagree.
Details please. Lots of details.
Or the primary fault is in the game play. But I do agree that the phenomenon of camping emerges from the interactions between the two teams, and isn’t just one sided.
The solution to camping is to stop being a complete scrub and git gud
I don’t understand you sometimes truck you said i was camping the other day. But i was literally at the front of your base killing all of you. Camping is when you stay at your own base.
I bet he is talking about New Edge server, where you earn credit killing ennemy base, where you could drain the BP of the opposite team by controling the map etc…
At least, even if that server is dead now, the dev staff tried to do their best and their was LISTENING the ideas of ppl.
I’ve noticed this too, desala is another culprit
“CAMPING IN THE CORNER OF OUR BASE”
I guess camping can be defined as staying stationary in one position for extended periods of time, but exploding the map in such a way is part of the game.
I’ve deliberated over this concept for the better half of a decade now and this is what I’ve come up with:
Players who think of themselves as “Top Players” (but really aren’t, I’ll get into whey they aren’t later) always go humans on ATCS. Why? Well, players who I will not name specifically but I’m sure we all know enjoy going humans because they have good aim. Do they have any other respectable quality? No. So, in a match of atcs there will be 2-4 well aimed players going humans because they think when they top score against an S2 alien team that they’re the best player to ever grace Tremulous. These players who camp long hall and use MD profusely are the same pond scum who complain when the alien team retaliates with rants. I personally seperate human players into two categories: Those who can kill rants single-handedly and those who can whore every other alien until a rant comes in which they complain or leave. I personally find myself to be one of the rare members of the former group, those who can kill rants single-handedly. Returning back to my previous topic: the 2-4 “good” aka well-aimed players go humans 90% of the time bc as I mentioned - they feel power from whoring dretches, and through that instant reward system they find pleasure. When rants show up in retaliation the people with good aim who aren’t well rounded tremulous players will often turtle up and camp or complain. Those who are in the rant-killing camp such as myself usually find themselves rushing hall alone usually with a luci or shotgun and doing pretty alright for themselves. Yes, it is hard to go alone but it is easy to succeed once you find a rhythm. This being the way Trem is, the fag “good” players all go humans and try to race to first place while the rant-killers are either forced to go Humans and carry the team when aliens reach S3 or go aliens and fight against the campy, faggy, albeit well-aimed players on humans.
Alternatively and as mentioned in the last few sentences: When players such as myself (an upper level human player who can sustain themselves even against S3 aliens) are forced to go aliens I am left with the responsibility of supporting my entire alien team financially and playing a defensive goon until my team hopefully gets S3. When my team reaches S3 (I’m usually the only good player, maybe I’ll have one or two knowledgeable guys who aren’t the best but support the team well) they all go rant (understandably). This causes the well-aimed but not well-rounded humans to turtle up in their base and complain, thus inciting the age-old camp fest as @DarkMicrobe previously mentioned.
TL;DR : There are too many “good” human players who turn out to be not as well-rounded and skilled as they think they are. Which means when rants come out they have no defensive or dance capability to deal with them, forcing the humans who think they’re good to camp.
Alternatively, aliens are left with a lot of shit players and one or two great players who are forced to play defensively against an onslaught of whore shitbag aiming humans trying to top score. If the aliens succeed in reaching S3 (which is rare) they are rewarded with powerful 400HP battery rams that force the not well-rounded humans into base which causes the age-old camp fest that was aforementioned.
I agree with this. As I said previously, git gud scrubs.
Or basenade.
I feel awkwardly in harmony with this sentence, I wonder why.
Btw is not easy to goon you bird
